Lovay Fine Arts is pleased to invite you to the opening of Kartonagen by Michèle Graf and Selina Grüter.

The exhibition presents a new group of reliefs that will be shown in our gallery space in Geneva (opening June 5) and at Liste Art Fair Basel (opening June 10).

Kartonagen builds from Clock Work’s leftovers. As Graf and Grüter dismantled clocks for Clock Work, a peculiarly shaped wooden bracket presented itself and became the basis for the new reliefs. This bracket was repeatedly hand-replicated in cardboard, coated in layers of oil pastel, and assembled in groups of 12. Each relief is built from the same pattern, obscured by different colors. Hundreds of these cardboard replicas combine into two dozen reliefs, becoming a strange record of time, sitting under oil, pigment, and fixative.
