PLAYGROUND brings together, in two communicating rooms and 250 m2, a contemporary collection of freely accessible artists’ games, and a workshop space dedicated to mediation activities. A free annual program of activities, accessible to all audiences and led by experienced mediators, will be offered in the form of meetings to approach art in a fun way.

At the heart of this space is a collection of games created by artists and designed to be played by all audiences from a very young age. This initiative aims to offer an artistic experience through sensitive exploration. The first episode, which spans a year, will feature seven artist games to experiment with, from artists Rasheed Araeen, Vidya Gastaldon, Stéphanie Probst, Neide Sá, Denis Savary, Alexia Turlin, and Galaxia Wang.

PLAYGROUND acts as a bridge between the exhibitions and the audiences of MAMCO, the Center d’Art Contemporain Genève and the Center de la Photographie Genève. It also functions as a workshop space for their common educational program, designed in parallel with the exhibitions: from weaving to “ready-made”, including cinema, photography and sound work, several techniques and mediums will be explored during the workshops led by guest artists and mediators. Both educational and fun, these moments of sharing, learning and creation enrich and nourish cultural mediation within the Contemporary Art Building.

PLAYGROUND is part of a series of projects to prefigure the operation of the Contemporary Art Building (BAC) after its renovation planned for 2025-2026. This new mediation space, located on the ground floor of the BAC, is a project led by MAMCO, the Geneva Contemporary Art Center and the Geneva Center of Photography.

The PLAYGROUND project received support from Loterie Romande and the Jan Michalski Foundation.
